Austinites Unite @ Beauty Bar

26 Feb

Southern Crux made it out to Beauty Bar Saturday night to say their farewells to a beloved Austin hangout and to catch Zeale bring the house down. The temperature outside was dropping, but that didn’t stop Austinites from coming out to support some of their favorite bands.

Opening up for Zeale were local bands Sphynx and The Shears, while Prom Date made the trek from Louisiana to be there to support the other artists and hopefully make an impact on Austin. And what a dance party Beauty Bar was, everyone was packed in there but no one cared cause everyone was having a great time. When Prom Date opened to a half-packed beauty bar, the night was already being set by people dancing and getting their drink specials on. By the time locals Sphynx took the stage, you could tell the crowd was digging their 80’s retro vibe and the trio was rocking out with blow up saxophones and matching 80’s skinny jeans. Another local band The Shears were playing in honor of their album release, being slightly newer to the Austin music scene, this group of musicians is quickly becoming a group to pay attention to. With a feisty lead singer, The Shears did an excellent job at jazzing the crowd up for Zeale, while most definitely scoring some new fans along the way.

When Zeale took the stage, he opened with some classic favorites with DJ Rockwell 9000 spinning the beats. After the crowd was amped up, he introduced his new drummer and new backup vocalist and that’s when the party really took off, everyone performing on stage was in synch with each other, and you could tell that the crowd was pleased with the new additions. People were moving, the sound was electric, it was a feeling that we hope everyone get’s to experience at least once in their lives (So make sure to catch Zeale at SXSW!). His words are smooth, there’s passion in the lyrics, you can tell that Zeales songs come with stories and heart, and we think that’s why he is so well received by his peers and his fans. He doesn’t just go up there and try to be somebody he’s not, every element of his show is authentic, from the freshness of his clothing, to the words burning through the speakers, and it just makes you want to keep dancing and listening. We caught up with Zeale before his set and got to ask him some questions we know you’re all dying to hear the answers to, so keep checking back as we are working hard on getting that footage to you all!

If you didn’t make it out to Beauty Bar you can catch Zeale as well as The Shears, and Sphynx @ SXSW, which happens to be only a few weeks away! We can hardly wait! But if you were at the show last night, we want to know what you thought of everyones performances! Who was YOUR favorite?
